Wislavin Granary hotel · Toruń

Location

ul. Rabiańska 14, inside the walls

One street back from the Wisła, four hundred metres from the market square, and inside a medieval town centre that is on the UNESCO list in one piece.

The street

Short, brick on both sides, running down to the water.

Rabiańska is one of the old merchant streets that drop from the market square towards the river. It is paved in granite setts, which are hard on wheeled luggage and worth the noise, and the granary stands at the bottom end where the land starts to fall away. Cars may come in for loading, and little else.

Bulwar Filadelfijski, from the town wall above the street

Ten metres past our door the street meets the embankment wall and ends. Beyond it lie the river path and the Wisła running west towards Bydgoszcz, and on a clear evening you can see the whole south bank, which is unbuilt.

Getting here

Most guests come by train, as the old town has little useful parking.

Train

Toruń Główny is across the river, about 2.5 km away; take a taxi or bus 22 over the road bridge, ten minutes either way. Toruń Miasto station is nearer, 1.3 km, a fifteen-minute walk through the park, and slower trains stop there. From Warsaw it is about two hours forty, from Gdańsk about two and a half, from Poznań about two.

Car

The old town is a controlled zone, so Rabiańska is no street to arrive on by car. Drive to the guarded car park on ul. Piastowska, five minutes on foot, and give reception your registration at check-in. We hold a monthly arrangement there and the rate goes on your bill. The same car park has four electric charging posts.

Air

Bydgoszcz is the nearest airport at 55 km, roughly an hour by car and poorly served. Most guests fly to Warsaw or Gdańsk and take the train, which is easier than it sounds.

On foot and by bike

Everything inside the walls is walkable in under fifteen minutes. The city bike racks are at the end of the street and the river path runs flat for 20 km in either direction. We keep six bicycles in the yard for guests, free and first come first served.

What is nearby

Walking times from the front door.

Rynek Staromiejski

The market square and the brick town hall, with the tower you can climb for the only view that takes in the whole roofscape. Four minutes.

Krzywa Wieża

The leaning tower in the town wall, out of plumb by about 1.4 metres and still standing. Three minutes, and on the way to the river.

Dom Kopernika

The gothic merchant house where Copernicus was born, now a museum with the interiors reconstructed. Five minutes.

Katedra Św. Janów

The cathedral, with the Tuba Dei bell and a tower open in season. Four minutes.

Ruiny zamku krzyżackiego

What the townspeople left of the Teutonic castle in 1454, which is not much, deliberately. Seven minutes.

Bulwar Filadelfijski

The embankment promenade, running under the town wall with the river on one side and the brick on the other. Ten metres.

Reception keeps a paper map with opening hours marked, which is more reliable than anything online in February.
