Hoist Beam Room
14 of them
Each of these has one of the granary's hoist beams across the ceiling, the squared oak timbers that used to carry the pulley gear, and one long wall where the brick was never plastered. The beam is low at one end, and a guest of 190 cm will meet it by standing up on the wrong side of the bed. That is why the bed sits where it does, and why a felt pad is nailed to the underside.
These are the quietest rooms in the house, facing inward with thick walls on three sides and no road outside. They take the back corner of the third and fourth floors. Beds are two singles as standard, pushed together and made up as a double if you ask when you book. There is a luggage rack instead of a wardrobe, since a wardrobe would hide brick we want you to see.
